Who are the best candidates for laser hair removal; how does the laser work?
When lasers were initially approved for hair removal treatments in the late 1990's it was evident that the best candidates were lighter skinned and had darker hair. Today with the new advances in laser technology the treatments can be effective on anyone regardless of hair and skin tone. So really anyone with unnatural hair growth or hair overgrowth is the best candidate for laser hair removal.
The laser is noninvasive so you don't need any incisions, cuts or bandages. The laser penetrates below the skin's surface seeking out hair follicles and attacking them with an intense burst of heat that lasts less than a second. Once the follicles are hit they are incapacitated for good, meaning they will no longer grow hair. Sometimes not all follicles are hit since they can be in different stages of development, so several treatments are needed over a couple of month's time to ensure optimal results. Once you come in for a free consultation, our certified technicians will match you up with a laser that best fits your physical traits.

How does laser hair removal differ from electrolysis
and is it permanent?
Laser hair removal is different from electrolysis on several levels. First of all, lasers can treat more follicles in a shorter period of time, while electrolysis only works on one follicle at a time. This makes for a huge difference in the time commitment needed for both. Most laser treatments can be completed in less than six months while electrolysis lasts for two years on average. Both electrolysis and lasers can leave some redness that usually subsides within an hour or so with the use of a cold washcloth. Lasers are about half price of electrolysis because the procedure requires less time to complete. In addition, electrolysis is very painful as you can tell from the side effects, while laser pain is pretty subjective. Laser Hair Removal is one of few permanent treatments for overgrown or unnatural hair growth.

There are no real adverse side effects that are directly related to laser hair removal. Immediately following a visit there has been some redness in the treatment area. The use of an cold pack application will help to alleviate any redness with an hour. To relieve any pain during the treatment the laser has the cooling device attached, if you feel this isn't enough you may want to supplement this effect by taking over the counter medications such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen one hour before a treatment.
Another rare adverse effect is hypopigmentation or hyperpigmentation. This is change in the skin's pigment or color. This has been most often associated with exposure of the treatment area to sun two weeks before or after treatment. Therefore a sun screen with at least a 30SPF is recommended to avoid this condition. This condition can be permanent but that is rare, the skin will most likely will convert back to its normal color after a few weeks.
